Enjoy! D’vorah Lansky, M.Ed. Founder of the Book Marketing Made Easy Academy

As part of Jo Ann’s virtual book tour, she has launched the B.R.A.G. program. Bloggers Read Across the Globe (BRAG) is a new initiative founded by children’s book author, Jo Ann Kairys, to bring attention to children’s reading and literacy issues. A professional medical writer and former high school English teacher, Jo Ann was inspired by the national Read Across America Project–a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2. This and many other well-established programs and resources are available to parents and educators about raising young readers. What makes BRAG different?

Bloggers love to communicate . . . but what would we do without readers? BRAG brings together a diverse community of children’s book authors, parents, literacy specialists, and book marketing experts who share a common theme — helping spread information about raising kids who love to read. BRAG is our way of joining the conversation and adding new insights and perspectives about children’s reading and literacy.
Beginning Feb 28, 2012, BRAG goes on a blog tour along with Jo Ann’s book, Sunbelievable–recipient of the Mom’s Choice 2012 Award. Through the end of March, the tour offers a daily roundup of children’s reading and literacy FAQs on Story Quest Books blog. In addition, host bloggers will feature original articles by Jo Ann about literacy initiatives around the world. You’ll find a thought-provoking menu of articles such as, “Wickedly Funny Storytelling,” “How to Create Illustrations Using Photoshop,” and “Reading to Kids While Walking the Dog!” Please join us February 28 to kick-off the 2012 first annual BRAG tour, including Special Bonuses! Details about the daily tour can be found at: http://storyquestbooks.com/events/ Welcome! We hope you’ll add your own voice to the dialogue to help spread the word about children’s reading and literacy!

Jo Ann is co-author and co-illustrator of her first children’s picture book, Sunbelievable, released in October 2011. Soon after, it received the 2012 Mom’s Choice Award. Jo Ann’s creative journey started with making picture books for her grandchildren. Fascinated with their playful imagination, she tried to capture their curiosity about the natural world in words and images.

Her son wrote the Sunbelievable story using his daughters’ actual dialogue. Together, they revised hundreds of times, learning about good storytelling by re-reading their childhood favorites. Illustrating was an even greater challenge. Jo Ann has no formal art training, but learned to use Photoshop as a canvas. She merged photographs of the girls with her digitally designed landscapes. The illustrations are unique, described by the San Francisco and Sacramento Book Review as “…unforgettable. You can’t take your eyes off of them!” Jo Ann has a series of new books planned with surprising new story twists and imagery.

About Sunbelievable

www.StoryQuestBooks.com

Mom’s Choice Award 2012! Sunbelievable is a humorous, educational/science children’s picture book about the Sun for ages 4-8. Does the Sun ride roller coasters? Teach fireflies to shine? Take bubble baths when eating pizza?

To help her younger sister Leen fall asleep at bedtime, YaYa tells her about the Sun’s amazing exploits. Skeptical Leen challenges YaYa’s tales and invents her own hilarious twists and surprises. Together, they create not only a wildly funny story, but also discover the power of shared imagination.

The illustration style, using digital photo collage, features real children whose dialogue unfolds in brilliant, magical landscapes. An educational piece with facts about the real Sun is contributed by NASA’s Chief Technologist.

Sunbelievable is uniquely geared toward young readers, helping them connect storytelling with science and nature. If the Sun can ride roller coasters, anything is possible!

Jo Ann’s Comments About the Virtual Book Tours Made Easy Course

“D’vorah’s course content is concrete, hands-on, well-paced and extremely informative. I’ve read about book tours, but taking her course has strengthened my confidence and “I-can-do-it” attitude. Interacting with course participants is great, not only online but during Q&A seminar times. Bonus materials are wonderful. The whole experience is motivating and powerful!”
